Administration

Principal- David Sanders

Greetings Scherkenbach Families:
Please allow me to introduce myself, I am David Sanders and am looking forward to working with you in my new role as Principal of William and Mary Scherkenbach Elementary School this fall. Currently I am the Principal at Sunrise Point Elementary School in the Blue Valley School District in Overland Park, Kansas, and have been with Blue Valley since 1998. Before moving to Kansas, I was a Principal for 17 years in the Richardson School District in suburban Dallas, Texas.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in elementary and early childhood education and a master’s degree in school administration, both from The University of North Texas. I also completed post-graduate work toward a doctorate degree in administrative leadership and early childhood education. I have professional licenses as a classroom teacher, principal and superintendent in Kansas, Nevada, and Texas.  During my time in Richardson, Texas, I was an elementary school teacher for five years teaching grades kindergarten, first, and third before becoming a school administrator there.

On a personal note, I have three adult children. My daughter, Hayley, is a graduate of Texas A & M University earning a B.B.A. and M.S. in Accounting. Hayley and her husband, Matt, have three daughters and live in Dallas, Texas.  My son, Kip, is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin earning a B.S. degree.  Kip also holds a M.S. from Baylor University. Kip is high school teacher and the spirit coordinator at Plano East Senior High School in Plano, Texas. My oldest son, Heath, is a graduate of The United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Heath was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and a nuclear engineer aboard the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis. He served in both the Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns. Heath and his wife, Kira, have two daughters and live in Seattle, Washington.
While my official duties begin in July 2017, I am moving to Las Vegas in June and plan on visiting several times between now and the summer.  In the meantime, I am in close contact with acting administrator, Dr. Adams, and Assistant Principal, Mrs. Tomburo.  I am confident that Dr. Adams and Mrs. Tomburo will facilitate a strong finish to the 2016-2017 school year.  Please join me in thanking them both for their efforts for our school community.

I am excited to join the Scherkenbach team!  You will find me to be warm, approachable, and committed to continuing the excellence established at our school.  I am spending some time at the school this week meeting staff, students, and families and hope to meet many of you prior to the start of next school year.

Warmest regards,

David Sanders
Scherkenbach Principal

Assistant Principal- Mrs. Sandra Tomburo

I have been with the Clark County School District since 1992.  Prior to teaching in Las Vegas, I also taught in Illinois and New Jersey. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Seton Hall University, my Master’s degree in Reading and Language Arts from Marycrest College, and my Administrative Endorsement from Sierra Nevada College. In addition to teaching in grades K-2, I have been a Literacy Specialist, Learning Strategist, Humanities Instructor, and Instructional Coach.  This is my third year as assistant principal.

My husband Todd and I are originally from New Jersey. We have three children, two boys and a girl.  Our oldest son Todd recently graduated from The University of New Mexico, with a degree in Criminal Justice.  Our youngest son Tristan is a senior at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, working towards a degree in Business Aviation and learning to fly both planes and unmanned aircraft.  Tristan also plays for Embry Riddle's men's soccer team. My daughter Tierney is a sophomore at San Diego State University and is studying both Criminology and Psychology. My family is very involved in soccer, and most of my free time is spent cheering them on from the sidelines.  As my husband and I enter the world of "Empty Nesters", we have had the opportunity to travel more and visit some of our bucket list destinations around the world.  I am very excited to be a part of the Scherkenbach Community, and look forward to another amazing school year.
